| BMG;β2-MG
β2 microglobulin (BMG; β2-MG) is encoded by the B2M gene. Beta2 microglobulins bind not only to the α chain of MHC Class I molecules, but also to Class I molecules such as CD1, MR1, and Qa-1 (a form of alloantigen). Another function of it is that it is associated with the HFE protein and co-regulates the expression of hemoglobinin in the liver, which degrades against the iron transporter ferroportin on the basement membrane of intestinal cells and macrophage cell membranes, resulting in reduced iron uptake from food and iron release from red blood cells recycled from MPS (mononuclear phagocytic system), respectively. Loss of this function can lead to iron excess and hemochromatosis.| Typical data
